The “end state” of the Olympic lifts is overhead or at the shoulder. Many lifters drop the weights from overhead. Since bumper plates are almost entirely rubber, being dumped from the shoulder or overhead will not damage the weights, bar, floor, bystanders, the lifter, etc…

Review 1: Bumper plates at an unbeatable price
Given the price tag, one could be skeptical about the quality of these plates. The difference between these plates and the standard bumper plate is the density. Bumper plates that are typically found in very free-weight centered training facilities have more give; however, that doesn’t necessarily take away from the quality of Onefitwonder’s bumper plates. The solid construction of these plates almost seem more durable, but with less give from drops. I’ve never been a proponent of dropping weights unless it was to prevent myself or others from getting hurt. Therefore, the density of these plates hardly poses an issue.
I’ve had these plates for about a week or two, and I’ve had to air out the garage a bit to get the rubber smell to circulate out. Like other reviewers have mentioned, this is a small issue, but not a deal breaker for me. It would be wise to keep these plates in a well ventilated area, but if your home gym is in a more confined area, I’d recommend opening the windows, when applicable, and maybe running some fans to alleviate the odor.
The weight seems to be true, and the construction is solid. I had no issues putting on and taking off the weights from the bar. Overall, this product is not perfect, but it is surely unbeatable in price and is a great buy for anyone building a home gym on a budget.
Review 2: Perfect for the home gym.
Great weights. Not smelly at all. Mine were delivered while I was out of town so the wife had them set just inside the entry way of our house and she never complained about any smell. I keep them in the garage with no issues either. Pretty rugged so far. I have 1 inch of high density foam on my garage floor and have dropped them from shoulder height. The only negative is they have a coating on them that make them slick. Over all very pleased.
Review 3: I love these bumpers
I love these bumpers. Delivery took three days and arrived boxed up. The plates did arrive with a slight rubber smell which went away in a couple of days. I would consider this normal due to my hi temp and rage plates smelling the same way. These bumpers have a low bounce compared to my High Temp plates which bounce all over my Garage. My wife lifts with the 10s and compared to the other plates these units do not fold. Overall i’m very happy with these will purchase another set soon.
