I purchased this rack to organize my (2) 7′ barbells and 300lbs in bumper weights. I have a small gym in my garage and every little bit of space counts. I couldn’t be happier with this purchase so far. In my search for a rack, I wanted six sleeves that were ALL capable of holding 45lb plates and two barbell slots for a reasonable price. This is what I came up with…
Not to state the obvious, but this rack is essential for bumper plates, since they are all the size of 45lb olympic plates. The other alternative are the horizontal racks, which I find more troublesome in picking out weights, especially when they start getting full. Both have their advantages – I went with this vertical rack because I’m used to it, and I’m glad I did.
It arrived in disarray, but I was able to retrieve the few nuts/bolts required for assembly, which takes less than 10 minutes. The parts weren’t damaged even though they were loosely flailing around in the box during shipping, kind of a testament to their durability I suppose.
The long term promise of this rack is unknown, but for the price I’m am very impressed with how it works thus far. I will update this review after a year, or if problems arise.
For bumper weights, the sleeves can hold (2) 45lb bumpers each, or (4) non-bumper traditional 45lb plates. After loading 300lbs in bumper weights, the rack didn’t shudder once. When all was added, I don’t have any room on my bottom two sleeves due to my (4) 45lb bumpers, but my top two sleeves are totally empty. This will hold a ton of weight in standard plates, but obviously bumper plates aren’t going to add up so well. I added my two 7′ 45lb olympic barbells, and now I have a nice clean setup for $150.
Tip: Be careful when tightening the four bolts that hold the legs on, if you continue to crank them down, they will just start “pinching” the sides of the tubing and compromise the stability of the rack.
