Review 1: Not sure what all the complaints are about

Ordered this mat despite all the bad reviews. I have been using Gaiam mats for the last 5 years and am generally pretty happy with them, and this mat was no exception. There was a slight smell when I first opened the mat, but it went away after a day or two of leaving the mat out and flat on the ground. It is also pretty normal for all mats…. This mat doesn’t seem any different from any of the Gaiam mats I have ever used.

It isn’t ridiculously thin, as some of the other reviews suggest, its just an average yoga mat- no different from any other I have ever used. If you are looking for an extra-thick mat, then perhaps this isn’t the mat for you. I also read about the tree design flaking off. So far, I haven’t had a problem with this- and I don’t really expect to. I’ve had another Gaiam mat for 5 years that has a design and its still just as clear as the day I bought it. I also don’t use the mat for hot yoga- not sure if that could have something to do with it.

Overall I think this is a great mat, and don’t understand what all of the fuss is about.

Review 2: I’m in love…

At first I was reluctant to purchase this mat because of all the negative reviews about lack of stickiness, but I’m glad that I decided to ignore them. What a beautiful mat and it is VERY sticky! In fact, when I opened the package and tried to unroll it, there was so much give that I could literally hear the mat resisting me trying to force it open; think, the sound of tape being ripped off of the roll. I then tested it out, the mat clung to both my hardwood floor and my area rug; I tried some poses and even ran across it…the mat stayed put and so did I, lol. I was gripped firmly to it and almost fell trying to run on it so, don’t try that.

I read so many “slippery” reviews so I thought I would slide across it but I was wrong. This mat has as much traction as every mat I’ve ever tried. As for the color, it was the same beautiful shade of lavender as pictured. My explanation for why there was an issue with color has two options: 1. Perhaps the seller changed the photo after so many people complained. 2. Either I’m color blind, or everyone else is, lol. Because the mat in the pic does not look even remotely blue to me. I love the chakra design and it makes the mat so unique compared to the boring plain ones. I am so happy with this purchase and I hope the mat lasts a long time because for this price, I don’t know if I’ll ever find another like it.

Review 3: A pretty mat for a good price, and free of 6 common toxins!

So far, so good! This Chakra Print Yoga Mat looks pretty for sure, and “behaves” just like the description said it would. I appreciate that it is free of many of the harmful chemicals found in some other mats– I found it disturbing that a mat I had purchased recently at a big box store came complete with a California Proposition 65 warning… I was slightly frustrated with myself for not checking prior to purchasing, but it was just as bothersome knowing that there are companies producing yoga mats that toxins can leech out of, during yoga, of all things!

It’s like, one step forward for practicing yoga, but from a holistic/integrative perspective, two steps back for exposing huge areas of your skin on such potentially harmful material, so it can soak in for an hour or more, however many times per week! Boo to those other companies, let’s hope they wake up, but cheers to Gaiam. Yes, I also do notice a very slight smell emanating from the foam, but only when my face is right up to the mat–and for me, personally, it is not unpleasant. It’s what I have noticed from almost every other foam product I’ve purchased, from place mats to memory foam mattress to crafting foam sheets, etc. I get migraines very easily from excessively strong or toxic odors, and the slight smell typical of foam items doesn’t bother me at all. Thank you, and happy yoga!
