I wanted a new watch, and I’ve been considering getting a fitness tracker. The Withings Activite totally met both of my needs.
Overall, it’s a watch first and a fitness tracker second. Taking that approach and not the other way around is important.
It tracks steps/activity, wakes me up with vibration, tells me how I slept, and the Withings app integrates with other fitness tracking apps so I get credit for activity there too. I know I’m used to wearing a watch, and I’m going to do that anyway, so the idea of also getting used to wearing a bracelet all the time wasn’t appealing. It doesn’t have all the functionality that a full-blown “smart watch” may have, but nobody will ever know you’ve got on a “wearable” at all.
It looks amazing. I have a skinny wrist, so I was a little nervous about ordering it before trying it on, but it’s perfectly sized. I can see it looking a bit smaller and therefore more feminine on a big-wristed brut, but it’s exactly what I wanted there. The crystal and chrome along with the blue accents and lighter colored leather are great together.
For the sweatier times, there’s a sport band I can swap out for that came with it, and the quick release strap design makes it easy.
I like that it switches timezones automatically too. I travel a fair amount, and it’s cool knowing my watch does the time switch along with my phone. You can double tap on the watch face, and the hands shoot around to show you when the alarm will go off before spinning back around to the real time. It’s a small feature, but I think it’s really cool.
Pros:
– Looks amazing.
– Perfect size.
– Simple design.
– High quality materials.
– Activity/Sleep Tracking.
– Vibrating alarm.
– Automatic timezone updates.
Cons
– Pricey. (although probably around the same price as a nice watch and a wearable)
– No date display or any interactive display other than the % of goal dial.
– Doesn’t seem to update as real-time as I was expecting. (may be a setting I’ve missed)
– No heart rate monitor.
– No alarm snooze.
